Meet the Founder

Mohamed Sayed, Founder and Executive Director, on why he started UMMA and what it is for.

My Journey, Our Mission

Hello, I'm Moe Sayed, and I want to share with you the journey that led to the creation of UMMA. Over the past 18 years, I've been deeply involved in the world of real estate, building a business portfolio that has been both challenging and rewarding. But throughout my career, I've always felt a strong pull towards something greater: making a meaningful impact in the lives of those who need it most.

In 2021, this passion drove me to establish UMMA. I realized that while I could make a difference on my own, the power of collective action could amplify that impact far beyond what I could achieve alone. UMMA was born out of a desire to unite people around a common goal: to provide sustainable support to communities in crisis and to create long-lasting change.

Since our inception we have grown 2x in a single year, to $1.13M raised in FY2023, and we file a public Form 990 every year so you never have to take my word for it. That money becomes meals for families, emergency surgeries for children, and fresh bread delivered daily across 7 countries. But this is just the beginning.

Our Core Values

At UMMA, we operate on four core values: Compassion, Integrity, Innovation, and Collaboration. These principles guide every decision we make, ensuring that our work is not only impactful but also done with the utmost transparency and creativity.

I invite you to join us on this journey. Together, we can continue to make a difference, empowering communities, and creating a better future for all.

The power of collective action could amplify that impact far beyond what I could achieve alone.
