Our Aim

Everyone should be able to read this site, find their way around it and donate, including people who use a screen reader, a keyboard, magnification or voice control. We use the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, level AA, as our reference.

What the Site Does

On the public pages:

  • Text is checked for contrast against the color actually behind it, including on photographs.
  • Every button, link and form field has a name a screen reader can announce.
  • Buttons, links, checkboxes and radio buttons are at least 24 by 24 pixels, the size WCAG 2.2 AA asks for, apart from links inside a sentence.
  • The first thing the keyboard reaches on each page is a link that skips to the main content.
  • The menus work with a keyboard, show where the focus is, and close with Escape.
  • Animation is turned down when your device asks for reduced motion.
  • The site is in 17 languages, and Arabic, Farsi and Urdu read right to left.

How We Check

We test the public pages in a real browser with an automated audit of contrast, names and target sizes. An automated check does not catch everything, so we want to hear when something gets in your way.

Tell Us About a Problem

Email hello@ummafoundation.org or use the contact form. Tell us the page, what you were trying to do and what happened, and we will look into it.
