Fidyaفدية

Feed someone in need for each fast you are genuinely unable to keep.

Fidya is paid by those who cannot fast during Ramadan because of a lasting reason and who will not be able to make the days up later. The obligation is to feed one person for each day missed. UMMA fulfills it through our own food programs.

Common Questions

  • How much is Fidya per day?

We calculate Fidya at $10 per missed fast: a full day of food for one person, given through our own food programs.

  • What if I can make the fasts up later?

Then Fidya does not apply. Fidya is for a reason that is expected to last, not a temporary one. If you can make the days up, make them up.
